- "So the question is… what looks like a Transformer but clearly isn’t?"
- —Overclock
THE-01 (Short for Trans-Human Entity, number 01) was a mysterious robot found off the coast of Empire City. Clearly nonfunctional, the robot had suffered severe damage. One arm, most of one leg and a portion of the chest were missing, while the rest of the body showed severe signs of wear. Furthermore, it had been underwater for some time, further damaging it.
The robot was initially assumed to be a Transformer, as it had features that clearly indicated that it had an alt-mode. However, when Autobot scientist Overclock began an investigation into the body to determine the cause of death, he turned up a number of interesting facts.
While it did indeed have the ability to transform, the robot was not a Transformer. Its internal circuitry and structure was substantially different in design and construction. Furthermore, it became obvious that the robot was of a less advanced construction then a modern Transformer. The robot seemed to lack any sort of mass shifting or substantial internal reconfiguration. Additionally, it had no form of subspace storage.
Unlike most Transformers, the robot was capable of flight in robot mode, having small thrusters built into its feet. The robot’s only weapon was a high-output energy projector built into the hand that would operate when it was clenched into a fist (Although Overclock speculated that the missing arm contained a second emitter).
Most fascinating was the robot’s brain. Rather then any sort of electronic (or even mechanical) control, the robot possessed what appeared to be a human brain, tied into the body like a cyborg. Unfortunately, despite the advanced life support system, the brain had ceased functioning some time ago.
Overclock reached the conclusion that THE-01 had been terminated by a sudden, powerful explosion which had, in turn, likely knocked it into the water. He also firmly stated that the robot, despite having a human-like brain, was not of human manufacture.
